About

A quieter kind of daily check-in.

Balu is a private video check-in app for iOS designed around one idea: most people benefit from a daily moment of honest reflection, but most tools make that moment feel heavy, public, or performative. Balu exists to change that.

The founder story

Cole Miller built Balu after a problem kept repeating in his own life: he wanted a better way to notice how his days were going, keep his tasks in order, and reflect without turning the process into more homework. Writing never stuck. It felt slow, overthought, and too easy to avoid when the day had already been long.

The workaround was simple but revealing. Instead of opening a blank journal, he started recording short private videos in his camera roll. Those clips were faster, more honest, and easier to return to later, but they still lived in the wrong place. There were no prompts, no mood context, no task review, and no calm archive that kept the whole picture together.

After graduating with a computer science background and trying to build something genuinely useful, he turned that workaround into Balu: one quiet place for prompted reflection, short private video check-ins, task review, and a calendar you can revisit without an audience watching.
